sometimes the things that the world does makes you want to break into deep thought.
like eg:
why do some people behave in certain ways?
and then why do some people interpret these "certain ways" wrongly.
which then leads to misunderstanding, and a waste of time trying to clear the air.
but then again, why do some people like to make things complicated in the first place?
or why do we ourselves make the simplest of things so difficult.
man is indeed a complicated, complex, and confounding creature.
confusing enough to even confound ourselves.
man's delusion of grandeur starts when he dreams big, but then, the bubble bursts when ideas on how to achieve them become convoluted.
the mistake that most people make in trying to acheive their goal is that they want to go for the spectacular, and impress others.
when what they don't realise is that the simplest of methods always works wonders.
yeah, feels good to let out some philosophy speak.
anyway.
i do feel like continuing with some more abstract thinking.
ok, now let's talk about love.
let me begin by asking this rhetorical question: "what is love?"
im sure, many of you all would probably have some sort of answer to this.
if you were to poll any man on the street, his answer would probably be somewhere along the lines of "affection, care, concern; or a strong kindred feeling for another person"
but to me, i like to define it as some sort of a connection or close bond between 2 people.
why? cause only with this connection will you start to show affection or concern to the opposite party.
and that is why there are platonic friendships. i.e. those between 2 people of the opposite sex without any intention of cohabitation or mutual lust.
i know some people will tend to disagree with me and say that platonic friendships cannot be counted as love,
but it is the fact that since Plato considered rationality to be a passion, and because we are all hooked onto the chase of rationality, therefore love, which exists in many forms, has the ability to be rational and clear-headed, not like those amorous romances you see in Hollywood dramas.
well, i'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all or what.
but sometimes, when you've seen enough, and felt enough.
what these philosophers say is true.
love in a platonistic form is ultimately better than love in its romantic manifest.
because you don't wear your heart on a sleeve when your just normal friends with other people.
speaking of wearing my heart on a sleeve.
i realise i've been doing just that the past few months.
why oh why? i don't really know why.
i guess a part of me changed when i broke up with emma a long way back.
for better or for worse? i don't really know at this point of time, nor can i comprehend on what it has done to me?
what i do know is that only time will tell what has happened to me. good or bad, its something i have to cope with.
ok anyway, its time for me to go back to reading philosophy now.
next up, plato's definition of a good society.
hopefully one that involves it being totalitarian in nature.
